Instructor: John Williams BS, CCJC, CACIII, D.V. Certified, and Gang Certified
Course: Domestic Violence at a Glance
Category: Special Populations - Adolescence

Course Description
This course will address domestic violence among adolescents. It will also include gang violence, youth/adult violence and date rape. The issue of drug and alcohol use and abuse will be interwoven into each area. The use of drugs and alcohol intensifies violent situations and this course will explore the dynamics that exist when both entities are present in the life of an adolescent.
Violence along with drug and alcohol use continues to be the number one enemy in every community. These issues affect the youth in ways that can distort their minds and the future. The typical barriers of race, ethnicity or socioeconomic status are all crossed in the areas of violence and drug/ alcohol use.
The focus of this course is to develop counselors with the skills to address violence issues in connection with the use of drugs and alcohol. The counselor will become more knowledgeable about how these issues permeate the adolescent's environment on a regular basis and they will be able to present options to youth.
